The Government is requiring all 21 two-tier areas of local government in England to reorganise by 1 April, 2028 into one or more unitary authorities (single councils that provide all services).
Over the decades your councils have worked very effectively with each other to make all parts of Worcestershire great places to live, work and visit. Some of your local councils have shared services and staff in order to reduce costs and boost efficiency.
Despite this, the Government has decided it is time for a change and they want to make things simpler, clearer, and better value for money.
Not reorganising is not an option. Our job is to recommend to the Government what should replace your current councils in the future. That’s why your views are so important.
Once created, the new unitary councils will be able to join with neighbouring councils to take on more powers from the Government and to access increased funding. See the devolution section of this site for more information.
