Both options will be simpler for residents to understand, reduce councillor numbers and save money compared to the current structure. Exactly how much is not known at this stage. Work is underway to provide detailed information around both options to help us understand the potential savings and other benefits involved.
We have researched how other areas responded to reorganisation and there is no one-size fits all approach. The final decision was made by the Government and Parliament based on each area’s own local circumstances.
For example, in Dorset nine councils were replaced by two unitary councils and Cumbria seven councils were replaced with two unitary councils. One council covering the whole county replaced seven councils in Cornwall. In North Yorkshire eight councils were replaced with a single unitary council.
When deciding how to respond to our survey there is no right or wrong answer. Your response should be based on what you believe will be best for you / your organisation and for Worcestershire.
